Dress Code

Face Covering Policy
All staff and students may wear cloth face coverings that adhere to the dress code, while on any school campus or district property including buses and school vehicles.

The Board recognizes that each student's mode of dress and grooming is a manifestation of personal style and individual preference. The Board will not interfere with the right of students and their parents to make decisions regarding their appearance except when their choices affect the educational program of the schools or the health and safety of others. This policy is intended to provide guidance for students, staff, and parents.
The Board authorizes the Superintendent to develop and enforce school regulations pertaining to student dress that promote safety and a positive learning environment. Student dress shall not:
A. Present a hazard to the health or safety of the student or to others in the school.
B. Materially and substantially interfere with school work, create disorder, or disrupt the educational program.
C. Cause excessive wear or damage to school property.
D. Include any type of clothing, accessories and/or jewelry that is worn with the intent to convey affiliation with a criminal street gang as defined in A.R.S. 13-105.

Discriminatory or obscene language or symbols, or symbols of sex, drugs, or alcohol on clothing are prohibited.Students may wear clothing, accessories and jewelry that display religious messages or religious symbols in the same manner and to the same extent that other types of clothing, accessories and jewelry that display messages or symbols are permitted.
The district supports dress standards that ignite a culture of learning and well-being. Students are expected to dress in a manner that is appropriate for the school day or for any school-sponsored event. Dress standards will be applied consistently, and enforcement of these standards will minimize the loss of educational time.
A. Clothing must include a top and a bottom (such as pants, skirt, shorts or the equivalent), or a one-piece outfit (such as a dress or jumpsuit).
B. Clothing must cover all private body parts and must not be see-through.
C. Tops and one-piece outfits must be secured with material at the shoulders or neck.
D. Clothing may not cover a student’s face to the extent that the student is not identifiable (except clothing worn for health and safety, medical, or religious purposes.)
E. Footwear such as shoes, sandals or boots shall be worn in the school buildings at all times and must be both safe and non-destructive to school property.
F. Students are not permitted to wear clothing, jewelry or personal items that substantially disrupt or interfere with the learning process, contribute to a hostile or intimidating environment, advocate, promote or communicate violence or acts of terror, criminal activity, pornography or sexual references, use of drugs or alcohol, or profanity, use or depict hate speech or symbols or threaten the health or safety of any other student or staff member. A.R.S. 13-105.
G. All headwear must allow the face to be visible and not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff (except clothing/headwear worn for health and safety, medical, or religious purposes).


Implementation:
A. The Student Dress Code shall apply to regular school days and summer school days, as well as at all District and/or school-sponsored events and activities.
B. Site-level administrators shall be required to ensure that all staff members are aware of and understand the requirements of this regulation.
C. Any student whose attire does not meet the requirements of Board policy shall be asked to remedy the matter by covering, changing, or removing the non-complying clothing, jewelry, or personal item, where appropriate.
D. In order to ensure effective and consistent enforcement of the dress code, school administration and staff shall enforce the dress code in accordance with this regulation.
E. Exceptions for special activities or health considerations may be pre-approved by the administrator.
F. Students who volunteer for extracurricular activities, such as athletics, band, chorus, et cetera, are subject to the standards of dress as defined by the sponsors of such activities. School administrators will make the final decision regarding the appropriateness of any student's appearance.

Students who volunteer for extracurricular activities, such as athletics, band, chorus, et cetera, are subject to the standards of dress as defined by the sponsors of such activities.
The administration retains the final discretion to determine that the garment or accessory meets the dress code.


Dress code Violation Consequences
ALL violations are required to change clothing to be returned to class; otherwise, finish the day in ISS.
1st – Warning
2nd – 1 day After School or lunch detention
3rd – 1 day ISS
4th – 2 days ISS
5th – Refer to violation “Defiance/Disrespect Towards Authority/Non-Compliance”
