Important Information for all parents:

ABOR approves restructuring of the Regents’ High Honors Endorsement scholarship
“The changes that the Board made today preserve the original intent of the RHHE scholarship – that is to incentivize the best and brightest Arizona students to attend an Arizona public university,” said ABOR Chairman Anne Mariucci. “At the same time, we are raising expectations for academic achievement here in Arizona and directing resources where they can have the maximum impact.”
Key changes to the award include a reduction in the scholarship amount and the addition of the ACT and SAT, in addition to AIMS, as eligibility criteria. With the changes enacted, the annual cost to the universities will be reduced to $4 million, from approximately $12 million in FY 2010, freeing up $8 million for need-based aid. The universities will be asked to report annually in the Student Financial Aid Report on the reallocation of the resources currently allocated under the AIMS criterion for need-based aid.
A summary of the approved changes follows:
  • University Academic Year 2013-14 and Beyond (Current high school Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen)
No changes to criteria for AIMS, competency courses or GPA.
Add scores on ACT of 28-36 or SAT1 at 1300-1600.
Reduce the scholarship amount to 25% of tuition. At the discretion of the university, a student may be awarded more merit aid.

High Five Scholarships

Most college scholarships will be awarded during the next three months. The High Five Scholarships website has more scholarships than any other source. Please send your students and their parents to High Five Scholarships. Our goal is to show students the large number of scholarships available to them before they ever consider a student loan. With over $45 billion in total awards, the best place to find a scholarship is HighFiveScholarships.com. We will match every student with hundreds of scholarships - free of charge. High Five also gives students free SAT and ACT strategy guides and online practice tests that are graded by a real person and include a free test consultation with a test expert.

Early College Program

The Early College program provides Pinal County high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to get an early start into college by taking courses while still enrolled in high school. Students accepted into the Early College program receive a tuition scholarship from Central Arizona College. The tuition scholarship covers regular in-state tuition and fees. Students are responsible for the purchase of textbooks, class materials, and are responsible for their own transportation to and from campus, if required. The Early College program provides a great opportunity for students and their families to save on overall college costs, while allowing students to get early exposure to a collegiate environment. For more information on the qualifications for the Early College program and details on participation, please visit www.centralaz.edu/earlycollege. Most CAC classes begin on January 22, 2013, so there is still time to register for CAC’s spring 2013 semester.
